To provide protection cover to employees, Employees’ state Insurance Scheme of India (ESIC) has provided many helpful schemes that provide Insurance cover to employees. Under these schemes, workers and their dependents get protection cover. Employees get full medical benefits that are applicable to workers from day 1. Apart from such benefits, various other benefits can be availed in case one suffers permanent or temporary disablement or any kind of distress due to sickness that may result in loss of loss of employment or loss of income.

With the help of its wide network of branches, ESIC on average makes payment of Rs. 300 crores every year with Rs. 40 lac of individual payments. However, to avail the benefits under the scheme insured person need to satisfy certain conditions as mentioned under the scheme. These formalities come under the set procedure that is followed every time compensation has to be given. In order to help one with the compensation process, an attempt has been done in the following paragraphs to specify the procedures in a clear and straightforward manner.

ESIC Delhi

Pandit JawaharLal Nehru inaugurated ESIC’s first office in Kanpur on 24th February 1952. This day is also celebrated as ESIC day. A 70,000 strong crowd was addressed by Pandit ji on the BrijenderSwarup Park, Kanpur. The meeting was addressed in the presence of the then Chief Minister Pt.GobindBallabh Pant, Sh.ChandrabhanGupt, Union Food Minister, Raj KumariAmritKaur the then Union Health Minister, Sh.ChandrabhanGupt, Union Food Minister, Raj KumariAmritKaur the then Union Health Minister, and BabuJagjivan Ram the then Union Labour Minister. Also, present on the occasion was Dr.C.L.Katial. He was the first Director General of ESIC.

ESIC Delhi office soon opened. The esic new delhi scheme in Delhi got launched soon after it was done in Kanpur. A total of 1,20,000 employees were covered under the scheme. A declaration form bearing the signatures of our Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru is now a prized possession with the esic new delhi office. He was the first honorary person who was insured under the scheme.
